    VP-Business Development

    If you need a quote or advice on your current insurance, give Mitch a call and he’ll be happy to help.  As the leader of the Founders team, Mitch oversees all aspects of new business, retention, and relationship management – for all of our insurance offerings (personal lines, commercial lines, and life). Mitch has earned his LLQP and CAIB designations since joining Founders and is working towards earning his CIP designation. Mitch spends most of his spare time in the rink, whether it be playing or coaching hockey. Mitch is eager to help in any and all of your insurance needs, and is committed to driving nothing but excellent service and pricing to our client base.

  • Peter Aalders CAIB, LLQP
    Personal Lines Manager

    Peter, one of the original Founders employees, is a Senior Broker focusing on the sale of Personal and Commercial lines insurance as well as Life & Accident and Sickness insurance including Critical Illness insurance. Peter, a father and husband, loves to spend time with his beautiful family. In his free time, he enjoys going to the gym, playing softball and golf (however, he does not have much time for these), cooking (and eating), and travelling. Peter is also our resident sports expert, and an avid Blue Jays fan. As family and work are priority these days, Peter partakes in fantasy sports. He notes his favorite travel destination as Florida. Peter is a team player who knows insurance; he knows about the many products and companies that Founders represents, and he is always available to help out any of his colleagues with a smile (and usually a joke), and of course, to help you – our client! If you’ve dealt with Peter in the last 10 plus years you know how dedicated he is to his profession and to you.

  • Darnise Umlah CAIB, LLQP
    Senior Commercial/Personal Lines Manager

    Darnise has surpassed the 10-year mark with Founders Insurance. Currently, Darnise is our Senior Personal/ Commercial Lines Account Executive and has been in this industry well over twenty years! Darnise is licensed for general insurance,  life, and accident & sickness insurance – holding her CAIB and LLQP designations. She enjoys spending time with her beautiful daughter Jaiden, and keeps busy with travelling, walking and four-wheeling. Darnise takes great pride in the incredible work she does; mentoring, training and problem-solving, on a daily basis. We wouldn’t be able to do it without her!

    Derek joined the Founders team in 2017 and he has hit the ground running. Derek currently serves as our Personal Lines Account Executive.  He’s ready and able to assist you with making changes to your policies and helping you determine your best option for your insurance needs.  Derek is also eager to quote your home and auto insurance!   • Cathy Bermundo B.Comm, AIT, CAIB, CIP, LLQP
    IT Help Desk Analyst

    Cathy joined Founders Insurance Group Inc in 2007, first working in IT/Operations and over the years, she has worked in every single department.  In the past 10 years, she has achieved her CAIB, LLQP and CIP designations.  Today, Cathy’s main role is helping the commercial lines service team but she will often help out with reception, personal lines service and life or critical illness insurance teams, when needed.  Cathy also is a facilitator at ITAC Inc. (Insurance Training and Consulting, Inc.) where she helps current professionals obtain their licensing levels and helps new students get into the insurance field.  Cathy’s work experience includes various fields such as Business, Early Childhood Education, Information Technology and Acting.  She enjoys playing tennis, golf, softball, pickle ball, squash and karaoke.  In the office or classroom, or on the courts, softball fields, “on set”, or just out-and-about in Nova Scotia, you’ll rarely see Cathy Bermundo without a smile on her face.  Cathy is a positive and helpful spirit, making her an asset to both the Founders Insurance Group Inc. and ITAC Inc. teams, and our customers.

We are looking to bring a dynamic, self-motivated, hardworking individual to our team in Burnside! We are currently accepting applications for a Customer Service Representative.


This individual will be our front-line representative to the public. You will be responsible for handling incoming phone calls and visitors to the office. As a CSR, you will be the first thing our customers see when they enter the office, and the first voice they hear when they call. Here at Founders we value the customer experience above all else – no switchboards or voicemail for us!


As such, our CSR will work to earn their general Insurance Broker license. Upon completion of this, you will be able to report claims, answer general inquiries regarding policies, and help out our excellent broker team when they need it. Our CSR will be able to help out with data processing and renewal management by learning each of our broker partners’ portals (basic computer skills are a must) – don’t worry, our fabulous CSR Amanda will be with you every step of the way.

Required Skills & Qualifications

We are not asking for formal requirements for our new CSR, but we do require:

  • You to have a high school diploma. A certificate/diploma/bachelor’s degree in business or related business experience would be considered an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and collaboration skills are a must as Founders Insurance works as a team to make sure our customers are well taken care of.
  • Basic computer skills are also a must as most learning is computer-based.
  • In addition to being a team player, you are also able to work well independently. We always try to help each other in a timely manner, but once in a while,  there are really hectic days. When we train you, this will be part of the training so you can be a self-sufficient broker.
  • Previous experience in the insurance industry is not required but appreciated.
  • Previous experience in customer service is an asset.
